EARL MORESBY SOFA WITH SACHA STREBE

Sacha Strebe is the uber-talented power house and editorial director for Create & Cultivate; a conference that empowers women to gain the skills and means to successfully create and cultivate the career of their dreams. As the former editorial director for My Domaine, Sacha has years of experience working with interiors and design. We were honored to be invited into her beautiful home, bringing along our newest piece, the Moresby Sofa.

Julie Van Daele, of Well Received, came along to perfectly curate our clean-lined classic sofa within Sacha’s design forward space. The pairing just felt right. One of the things we love most about this sofa is how seamlessly it conforms to every space.

It was a real pleasure spending the afternoon with Sacha and her son, Neon. Sacha is super inspiring to be around as she visibly brings harmony through her life in the roles of editorial director, mom, wife, friend, writer-creator of Stylexicon and Skinlexicon, and so much more.

This series was photographed by Michelle Mosqueda.

Who is in your nuclear family?

Me, my husband, Troy, our son, Neon, and French Bulldog puppy, Cosmo.

What most often brings you together as a family?

The dinner table. We don’t own a TV so we love to gather around the table for a family meal each night. My husband is a phenomenal chef and cooks homemade vegetarian meals most nights. I’m very lucky. We use this time and space to share stories of our day, talk through any troubles or concerns from the boardroom to the playground, and laugh at silly jokes or memories. It’s my favorite part of the day.

What do you believe makes your family unique?

We are very open and honest with each other. We share our deepest feelings and are very empathetic to the concerns and needs of one another. We hug it out instead of yell it out. We say sorry and hug each other immediately after an argument or if we get heated in the moment. We’re super close and share everything. It’s a very intimate relationship and one I truly value. Our son tells us everything (so far) because we truly respect him and his choices—we don’t judge or let our choices for him cloud how we perceive his experience. That’s really important to us. This is his life and we want to be there to guide him but ultimately give him the confidence to choose and make those decisions for himself.

Where do you most often gather in your home?

The living room or the kitchen, haha! On the weekend, Troy will throw a record on, he’ll lay on the sofa with Cosmo and Neon and I will chill on the hunting chairs and we will chat and laugh, or play cards.

Do you often host visitors or guests and if so what drives you to do so?

Yes! Both my husband and I love to entertain. I hosted a dinner party for my friends to celebrate my 39th birthday this year and write one I invited came which meant I had close to 30 people in our small apartment—but it was so cozy and intimate, everyone had an amazing time! We just love celebrating our friends, giving back and sharing good conversation (and good food!). We also love bringing interesting people together—new friendships or business deals are made and we all leave the evening having learned something new about some one or some thing over a glass of wine. What could be better than that?

As a family, do you have rituals or traditions?

Every Friday we order takeout and have family movie night. It’s the best! We have a projector in our room which we hook up to the speakers for surround sound and we all cuddle together and watch the film, then usually fall asleep together too, haha!

How would you describe your home?

It’s a modern vintage eclectic fusion with a nod to the laid-back California aesthetic. I think every interior should reflect the culture and environment around you so we wanted to infuse that into our space which you can see in the color palette and the textures. It’s very warm and welcoming with furniture that beckons you to sit and chat over tea or wine with a candle burning.

What keeps you living in los angeles?

I love the people and community, the weather, the food, the laid-back lifestyle—so much! I’m also in awe of the artistic community. This city is brimming with creatives who are truly making world-class design and pushing the culture forward. LA has welcomed me with open arms and I’m so grateful to live in this vibrant city.

Tell us a bit about what you do?

I was the editorial director at MyDomaine for 4 years before leaving earlier this year to pursue new opportunities outside of design (although my heart is and always will be in the design world). Then the role of ED landed in my inbox for Create & Cultivate—an online and offline platform that creates and cultivates the career of your dreams—and I’ve been working in that role for 6 months. The company is in a growth phase right now so there are a lot of exciting things happening right now. It’s also a very multi-faceted role which means I’m always faced with new challenges and projects which push me to grow (such as moderating panels at our events) and that’s exactly what I was looking for after MyDomaine.

how have you approached managing your work life balance?

I have a side hustle called Stylexicon—a design newsletter and Skinlexicon—a skincare newsletter which I try to send out every fortnight but the deadline often gets pushed due to my full-time job so it ends up being monthly but it’s something that lights up my soul and who knows, maybe one day it will become something more, but for now, it’s just a passion project. She. It comes to work/life balance though, it’s almost impossible so I don’t think about it anymore. The “b” word has been banished and instead I have replaced it with “work/life harmony”—we’re all just doing the best we can, and that’s good enough, we’re good enough!

thank you Sacha, Neon, and Cosmo for welcoming us into your home. Our sofa is so good looking in your space!
